Overview
The Soledad Club is a non-profit charitable organization promoting social civic, cultural, educational and philanthropic affairs of the City and its members. Membership is open to persons 18 years or older. For many of us, the Club has become our second home and the members our extended family.
History
Our clubhouse exists today, due to the generosity of Dr. Ralph Roberts. It was built in 1963, as the Pacific Beach Woman’s Club. Dr. Roberts financed the construction with a $75,000 donation in memory of his deceased wife. Mrs Roberts was a loyal member of the Woman’s Club, at one time serving as President. The club remained active until 1976, when the City of San Diego was unable to fund maintenance of the building.
In 1977, a group of men and women from the community formed what is now known as the Soledad Club. Their purpose was to continue providing the community with a full-service bridge club, donate generously to local charities and maintain this public building. As a non-profit organization, we lease the building paying a percentage of income to the City of San Diego as rent.
Today
While some officers receive a small stipend, willing volunteers donate their time and talents to maintain a pleasant and safe facility for club members, their friends and the community.
Yearly dues and special events fund our activities. Members benefit from a number of social functions throughout the year and coffee and tea are served at our bridge games.
The various events are open to members and their guests throughout the year. Guests are welcome to visit our bridge games and we welcome them as paying members.
We pay full property taxes, fire and liability insurance and maintain the 1.33 acre lot.
